The idea of whiter teeth sounds great, but many people don’t realize how easy it is to make that idea a reality. Years of certain oral habits, medications, or diet can discolor the smile, leaving you feeling embarrassed.
Teeth whitening has risen to fame as one of the most popular cosmetic dental services available. Its increase in popularity is because there are so many benefits from professional teeth whitening.
Enhanced Appearance – Discoloration and stains on the teeth can mar your appearance. A whiter smile instantly enhances your appearance.
Increased Confidence – Whether you are out with friends, at a job interview, or on a date, your confidence will shine when you are proud of your smile.
Minimizes signs of aging – When people look at your face they will be drawn to your sparkling smile, which can lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
It’s Affordable – While many cosmetic procedures can be expensive, teeth whitening is a cost-effective way to achieve big results with a small price tag.
Improved Attitude – Have you ever noticed that when you look better, you feel better? Having that improved attitude can help you engage more, talk more, and even take more risks.
At Dentistry on Parkdale we offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening.
With the Zoom! whitening, we will prep the mouth and apply the whitening gel to the teeth. A light is used to activate the gel, removing discoloration and whitening the teeth. The entire process is repeated three times to achieve the optimal shade of white. Afterward, a post-treatment gel is applied to minimize sensitivity.
With at-home whitening, we will take impressions of the mouth to make custom-fit whitening trays. Patients will be supplied with the trays, whitening gel, and instructions for how to apply the gel and how long to leave it on. Patients will continue to use the trays each day for a specified amount of time to achieve the desired shade. Once the whitening process is complete, the trays can be used for periodic touch-ups whenever necessary.
It’s important to note that teeth can still be susceptible to stains after whitening treatment. It’s advised to avoid dark colored foods and beverages such as wine, tea, coffee, and soda whenever possible. If you do consume these foods and beverages make sure to brush or rinse the teeth afterward. Smoking is also a major cause of tooth discoloration. Patients who smoke or use tobacco are advised to quit to improve their health and the appearance of their smiles.
