When it comes to certain dental procedures, Hamilton, Ontario, area patients often have concerns about discomfort. This includes procedures such as tooth extractions. Fortunately, Dr. Karen Ho and her team at Dentistry on Parkdale are pleased to offer sedation solutions such as nitrous oxide.
While commonly called “laughing gas,” the proper medical term is nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is an odorless and colorless gas we administer through the nose. When inhaled, it can provide significant relaxation for patients. Some patients may even doze off in the chair, while others will feel relaxed and giddy–hence the name “laughing gas.”
Laughing gas is completely safe for our patients to get them through their appointments. We may use nitrous oxide for patients who need dental extractions done, though we can also provide it for those who are having simple cleanings and examinations performed. We don’t want dental anxiety to keep our patients from getting the care they need, and we can use this alongside local anesthetics when performing certain treatments.
Because the effects of nitrous oxide are reversible with the administration of oxygen, it is easy for patients to get back into the right mindset before they leave the dental office. Patients who undergo nitrous oxide sedation can transport themselves to and from the appointment and go about their day with little to no interruption. We find that nitrous oxide is an excellent solution for patients of all ages who may have dental fears or anxiety.
At Dentistry on Parkdale, we know that upcoming dental visits may be a source of fear and anxiety. If you are looking to have a procedure done, such as dental extractions, talk to Dr. Karen Ho and her team about using nitrous oxide sedation.
